and Ginger children's readers are suitable for use at home or
in the classroom. Not only are they proven for main stream education
but, many teachers have had good results with children who are
experiencing early learning difficulties. Basil and Ginger readers
are not intended as a stand alone reading solution, they are
designed to complement existing reading programs.

The Basil and Ginger series of readers were first introduced
in the classroom with outstanding results. They lend themselves
to theme development with some classes going on farm excursions
and developing other activities based on the Basil and Ginger
theme. Many teachers use these readers as homework, where a
child takes one reader home each night.
How They Work
Basil
and Ginger readers are a lot more than just readers. Apart from
the unique method of interspersed pictures they contain all
of the high frequency words from the major word lists as provided
in the Teaching Procedures
information. Each word is introduced within the one theme being
the Basil and Ginger farmyard and consistent repetition helps
children to learn and remember them. The readers also have a
gradual increase in difficulty, starting with larger print and
more illustrations and progressing to readers with no illustrations
and are an excellent introduction to basic story books.
